Quality Label «LOCALE CUISINE»
Supporting thematic tourism and promoting local traditional products is among the first priorities of the Messinian Chamber. In this framework, a series of initiatives has been undertaken in an attempt to highlight Messinian gastronomy. These activities involve recording traditional greek dishes and creating a model for production for each one of them, in order to promote them. Creating the Quality Label «LOCALE CUISINE» is an important step forward in promoting quality Messinian cuisine and local products. It certifies that a restaurant offers typical local dishes made with the best ingredients of the region.
Objectives: 1. Maintaining the special properties of the Messinian cuisine and encouraging traditional cooking, which is slowly forgotten. 2. Assuring a wholesome and nutritious diet through the use of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and other pure products from the Messinian land, such as figs, Corinthian raisin, wines, pasteli, bakery products, cheese, spoon sweets (preserved fruits in sugar syrup) etc. 3. Promoting typical local cuisine, that constitutes a comparative advantage and an important income for the Messinian economy. The Quality Label «LOCALE CUISINE» is granted to restaurants, taverns, hotels, traditional cafes-restaurants with a display of traditional products and food enterprises in general, regardless of their size, that have been proved to offer typical local (Messinian) cuisine and delicacies made with 100% pure Messinian products. These enterprises are tied by several obligations but at the same time they enjoy many privileges, such as promotion in Greece and abroad, special services and material, organizational and technical assistance etc.
