Kalamata
The "city" with its long history due to its harbour, slowly evolved to be an important commercial exporting centre of mainly grapes and olive oil and the city knew moments of great economic and social growth, a fact that is also proved by the foundation of the Chamber of Commerce in 1853.

Today, it is a commercial and industrial centre of the prefecture of Messinia and southern Greece, and the second largest city in Peloponnese after Patra, in respect to the population and commercial movement. A city that is a symbol of courage and also strong will, answered to the envy of gods of the deep with creativity and the calamitous earthquake of 1986 did not succeed in stopping its ascendant course.

Full of life in the winter and in the summer, with parks, wide streets and a beautiful beach of 4 km length, Kalamata is one of the most attractive cities of the south. A walk from the Historical Centre down to the coastal avenue of Navarinou, the Railway Park and the harbour, the visitor will not only familiarise himself to the rhythm of the city but if one is just passing surely one will decide to stay!
